Le Grand Courtiou is a beautifully restored farmhouse on a 9 hectare property. If you are looking for peace and quiet and the authenticity of the French country, Le Grand Courtiou is the ideal place to stay in the middle of a rolling and varied landscape.
Built in the 1850s, the house and outbuildings form a courtyard around the main pool. The property has a beautiful lake which is the perfect spot for a picnic. From the vegetable garden and the orchard (depending on the season) you can enjoy the fruit and vegetables present. The pure life with harvest from your own garden. You can also collect fresh eggs every day.
The 15-metre pool is perfect for lazing around on a sunny day - and if you've got the energy to spare, hop on one of the bicycles provided and cycle to nearby Lencloitre to buy some of the best baguettes you've ever tasted.
The comfortable guesthouse is suitable as a holiday home for 10 people. The pool and gardens for the summer and the central heating with open fires for the winter make it the perfect holiday destination all year round.
The southern Loire Valley is just over half an hour away, so the region's beautiful chateaux and vineyards are within easy reach.

The layout of Le Grand Courtiou, our holiday home near Château de Chenonceau:
Something for everyone: find peace in nature, or plan a city trip
Le Grand Courtiou is about 30 minutes north of Poitiers, which has both an airport and a TGV station. The airport has direct flights from Stanstead, London with Ryanair, or there is a local airline called Airlinair that flies within France. Flight schedules change seasonally, with flights to Edinburgh and Barcelona in the summer.
There are also airports at Tours (about an hour to the north) and Limoges (an hour and a little to the east) with flights from Dublin, Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, Nottingham and Southampton.
The TGV takes about 2.5 hours from Charles de Gaulle Airport or 1.5 hours from Paris - Montparnasse. From there it's an easy drive through beautiful scenery. It is also possible to catch the Eurostar from London, change to the TGV in Lille and in about 4.5 hours you can be in Poitiers. Easy anyway!
There is a huge variety of things to do and see in the Poitou-Charentes, such as theme parks, pretty towns and villages. One of the jewels of the Vienne department is the capital, Poitiers, a city steeped in history and whose old streets are bustling with life thanks to a large student population. The Vienne department offers a wide variety of interesting opportunities, including the internationally renowned Futuroscope theme and leisure park, the Crocodile Park, Snake Island and the Valley of the Monkeys.
The food and wine in the area are exceptional. It is home to cognac, refreshing muscadets (spectacular with oysters), cabernet franc from Chinon and Bourgueil & Saumur. The Loire Valley offers particularly fine white wines. The region is also justifiably known for its great local delicacies - for example cheese, honey, poultry, butter and snails - as well as fine restaurants, hotels, cafes and bars.
If you venture a little further afield into the southern Loire, the beautiful Château de Chenonceau is about an hour and a half to the north, as is Château de Villandry. Other beautiful towns in the southern Loire include Richelieu, Saumur, Chinon and Tours. All well worth a visit for their spectacular buildings and amazing history.
